Siddhivinayak Temple
Siddhivinayak Temple is a major temple dedicated to the Hindu religion and is associated with Lord Shri Ganesh. It is situated in Prabhadevi, Mumbai and is known as a major place of worship as it is said to fulfil the desires of worshipers.
The temple also has great historical importance. It is also famous for its archaeological beauty as well. The temple was initially constructed by Laxman Vithu and Deubai Patil on November 19, 1801. It is equipped with a small mandap that has a shrine for Siddhi Vinayak. There are wooden doors engraved with the images of Ashtavinayak. The temple’s inner roof is gold-plated and it also houses a Hanuman temple.
Siddhivinayak Temple is regularly visited by several politicians as well as Bollywood film stars who wish to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha. Siddhivinayak temple is also famous by the names of Navasacha Ganapati or Navasala Pavanara Ganapati.
History
Siddhivinayak Temple originally had a small 3.6x3.6 m2 construction. It was made of bricks and had a dome-shaped shikhara at the top. A rich Agri woman named Deubai Patil provided finances for the construction of the temple to fulfil her desire of a child. Ramakrishna Jambhekar Maharaj buried two divine idols in front of the temple after being ordered by his guru Hindu saint Akkalkot Swami Samarth. Amandar tree grew there having a svayambhu Ganesha in its branches after a period of 21 years of the burial of the icons.
Siddhivinayak Temple is spread over an area of 2,550 square metres and houses two 3.6 metre Deepamalas. There is also a rest house in the premises along with an accommodation for the caretaker. There is also a lake around the temple, which covers an area of 30x40 square metres. The lake was constructed in the early 19th century to cater to the water needs of people who live around here. However, it is no more a part of this temple’s complex. A Hanuman shrine was constructed here in nearly 1952 after the discovery of an icon of the lord during a road project at Sayani Road in vicinity. The temple started becoming famous and came into the limelight during the 1950s and 1960s. However, the complex area of the temple was reduced during the same period after some portion of the temple was sold by the owner.
