Legend
Temple associated legend says that, there once existed a prosperous and a rich merchant whose name was Durlabhsheth Pitambardas Mahajan. He was Goddess Chaturshringi’s ardent believer and had visited all her temples. Due to his old age, the flexibility in travelling was not up to the mark and for this very reason, he was unable to travel and pay visits to even more temples of the Goddess. Later, Goddess Chaturshringi appeared in his dream one night and blessed him saying that if it is not possible for him to be near her, she will stay near to him. She advised him to reside in the North-west Mountains of Pune. Apart from that, she asked him to dig the place and as per the description, the traces of goddess were found. It was not less than a miracle to find out swayabhu devi’s natural statue. After this, the construction of a proper temple at this place was done with timely renovation, being viewed as the present temple.
Deity
The present deity of Goddess Chaturshringi in the temple is also named as Goddess Ambareshwari. As per the recent considerations, she has been regarded as the presiding deity of Pune city. Chaturshringi Devasthan Trust is responsible for the maintenance of the temple. On the Navratri eve every year, the temple organizes a fair at the foot of the hills and thousands of people come together for Goddess Chaturshringi worship.
