Diveagar Beach

Before the theft of golden mask of Lord Ganesha this beach gained popularity. The village in which the beach is located is considered to be very auspicious.

The village of Diveagar is located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra state. The village is situated almost 170 km from Mumbai in the southern direction. This village comprises of a beach, temple and the people do the business of coconut and farming of beetle nut is also practiced in the area. The beach stretches over an area of four kilometers. The northern end of the beach is used majorly for fishing. The beach can also be reached by Mumbai-Goa highway through Kolad and Karnala.

There are several suru trees lined along the entire beach. The existence of suru trees is very common in the coastal areas of Maharashtra. The approaching lane to beach is adorned by very high numbers of Belu trees that otherwise cannot be seen in the nearby areas.

The beach is a very popular weekend destination for the people of neighboring towns named Shrivardhan and Harihareshwar.

The sand bubble crabs can also be easily located on the beach area. Dolphins can also be easily seen in the areas of Harihareshwar. Even the sea turtles also sometimes lay their eggs on beach.

The Theft of the Golden Ganesh Murthi

It was on 25th March 2012 that the golden idol of Lord Ganesha was stolen from Diveagar Ganpati Temple. The weight of the idol was approximately 8 KG. Two guards of the temple were also killed by the thieves.

Currently, the temple is also adorned with the silver made idol of Lord Ganesha.

How to Reach

The Diveagar beach is located in the city named Diveagar that is situated at a distance of 4 to 5 hours from city of Pune and Mumbai. It can be reached via National Highway 17 at a distance of 40 km from Mangaon.
