Saputara (Dangs) is suspended atop the Sahyadri Hills in Gujarat state. There are some worth-watching places to enjoy your holiday in Saputara town. Saputara Lake is one of those places where you can breathe unpolluted air while enjoying your holiday. Literature, poets and philosophers world over have praised greenery and flowers at length. These praises have taken shape in the pulsating gardens of Saputra. Packed with exciting gardens, Saputara gives visitors the rest and reality of literature’s depictions for nature. The gardens make ideal destinations to spend some calm moments away from the restless city crowd. Famous for its bamboo forests, one can buy beautiful artifacts and handicrafts made out of bamboo from Saputara.

Brief History

Folk-lore says that about 11years of his exile were spent here by Lord Rama. Saputara  gardens  are placed at an altitude of 800meter above the sea level on an upland in the area of thick Dang forest of the Sahyadri range of mountains. Name 'Saputara' signifies the habitat of serpents' and have an old shrine to serpent god, on river banks Sarpaganga, is respected by locals on the festivals such as Holi. Saputara is situated at the southern point of Gujarat, adjoining the border of Maharashtra.  Saputara is a planned hill destination by the Govt. and has all the necessary amenities viz. boat club, swimming pool, ropeway, gardens, museum, parks and theatres so that the tourists could enjoy their holidays in this cool place. Surat and Mumbai are 172km and 250km respectively from Saputara.

Beauty

The hill resort of Saputara promises to refresh the tourists throughout the year with its cool weather. The highest temperature even in the summer does not exceed 28 °C. At a distance of 60km from Saputara the Mahal Bardipura forest is bestowed with rivers and bamboo glades thus offering excellent walking and trekking options.

There is a forest hut for the comfortable stay of the visitors, placed amidst the garden. The Garden is well maintained and offer many varieties of flowers and plants. Garden has open space for children to roam around.

Rose garden, Lakeview and Step Garden, Saputara

There is a beautiful backyard for roses that yields eye-catching multicolored roses. Nearby there is another garden, known as step garden, with its characteristic steps ornamented with beautifully placed flower pots giving it a look like gardens of fairy tales.

Saputra gardens are so arranged that an admired picnic spot is set at Lakeview Garden.

Sight Seeing

  • Artist Village: The village welcomes the tourists to buy and admire the artifacts made by tribal’s on display. If interested tourists can also try their hands on making artifacts and paintings.
  • Vansda park: Vansada park covers an area of 24km². The park is small in size even than it harbors leopard, giant squirrel, pangolin, python, tiger, Rusty-spotted Cat etc. Chief Wildlife Warden and district forest officer, Ahwa have been authorized to give advance permission to visitors.
  • Purna Sanctuary: This sanctuary is spread in 160km²; Sanctuary is located on the western Ghat. It is part of an impenetrable humid forest of Gujarat. The purna Sanctuary is beautifully lined with bamboo pathways for tourists. Please take permission for visit in advance.
  •  Boating: The paddle / row boats are available to sail in Saputara Lake to experience the pleasure of greenery with boating.
  • Sunrise Point: To experience the superlative view of Saputara.
  • Sunset Point: Visit sunset point to witness wonderful and enormous spans of this forest and also distant views of forest villages.
  • The Ropeway: It is Crossway of the valley to reach to sunset point in ten minutes.
  • Gira falls: These falls make a superb expedition choice from Saputara. The Gira Waterfalls are worth seeing which are located about 50km from saputara..

How to Reach

By Air

International Airport at Mumbai is nearest while domestic airport is at Surat, 175km away.

By Rail

Bilimoria is a Western Railway junction and Waghai, a station on narrow gauge line, is nearby station for Saputara. Visitors from Mumbai, Surat and Ahmadabad are advised to drop at Bilimoria railway head to get direct buses to Saputara from there.

By Road

National Highway 8(to Ahmadabad) has diversion at Chikili-Waghai or Nasik-Vani for Saputara. Luxury coaches and state buses ply through this diversion to reach different locations of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

If you are coming here with your own vehicle please be advised to take fuel from Waghai or from road side pump towards Nasik before entering Saputara.

Local Transport

TCGL undertake tours for Saputra outside and within garden. Jeeps can also be hired from Ahwa

Best Time to Visit

Saputara hill resort is visited round the year but from March to November is most suitable time.

Timing (stay)

The Forest Log Huts of Saputara are very famous. These unique log huts, an amazing experience, are run by the State Forest Department. Apart from that, Saputara has few budget hotels and also some luxury hotels.

The time to visit, saputara garden, is from morning to evening.
