Brief History

During the time when Bombay State was divided, Ahmedabad was made the capital city of Gujarat. However, Gandhinagar was made the new capital, which is situated on Sabarmati River’s western bank. It is located at a distance of 32Kms in the northeast direction from the previous capital. The name ‘Gandhinagar’ was derived from the name of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhinagar, which is known as the greenest city of India, is the most sought after destination for Gujaratis to purchase landed assets for housings.

The second planned city of India is Gandhinagar, first being Chandigarh. The Children’s Park at Gandhinagar came up as a part of the city when the city was planned architecturally.   • Sarita Udyan - This lovely Sarita Udyan is at the side of river front and is located in sector 9 of Gandhinagar. The whole area is being created in such a way that almost all entertaining facilities must be there.
  • DeerPark - This is a fine place, next to Sarita Udhyan at Indroda village,  for adults and children alike for holiday.
  • Architecture Stuff - In the entire state of Gujarat, the Adalaj Step-well is believed to be one of the most excellent step-wells with exclusive architecture and its distance from Gandhinagar is only 15km on the National Highway.

How to Reach

By Road

GSRTC buses provide good service to passengers for adjacent states and within the state. Gandhinagar is connected, through NH-8A, to Navi Mumbai, Surat and Mumbai. NH-8C connects Gandhinagar to Ahamdabad.

By Air

The nearest airport Sardar Patel International Airport is at Ahmadabad which provides Domestic and International flights.

By Rail

Railway station exists in Gandhinagar and Recently Developed. Railway station at Kalol in Gandhinagar is well connected by Rail for to and fro journey to North and Eastern India. Metro Rail service is also under progress.

By Local Transport

To move about locally in Sectors, CNG Auto-Rickshaws are available. City bus service is also available.

Best Time to Visit

The months between March and June witness a hot climatic condition. The temperature range during the summer months remains between 36 degree and 42 degree Celsius. In the months between November and February, the temperature remains in between 19 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius. The time period from middle of June to middle of September witnesses a wet and humid weather due to the southwest monsoon. Thus the best time to visit is from October to March.


Time to visit the park is from early Morning to early late evening.
