The State picks up its name from the word Gujara, that means the land of the Gujjars. They ruled the area during the 700’s and 800’s. It is a state that is located in northwestern India on the border with Rajasthan and Pakistan in the north east and Madhya Pradesh in the east. The Arabian Sea also surrounds the state both to the south west and the west.

History

The history of Gujarat is a memorable one. This state comprises an significant part of Indian chronological texts.

Ancient Roots

The primary inhabits in Gujarat were Gujjars. They are the cultural group of Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. Primeval Gujarat was lined by the Maurya Dynasty. Emperor Chandragupta Maurya occupied a quantity of states in Gujarat while his grandson, King Ashoka unmitigated his area in Gujarat. After the fall of Maurya Empire, the Sakas forbade the region from A.D. 130 to 390. Medieval Invasions

The Muslim law sustained for 400 years. Gujarat's Muslim director Zafar Khan Muzaffar declared his self-government and established the primary Muslim sultanate in Gujarat. He took benefit of the feeble rulers of Delhi. He affirmed independence and understood the title of Muzaffar Shah. His heir, Ahmed I, the primary independent Muslim monarch of Gujarat, establish Ahmedabad in 1411 on the banks of the Sabarmati River.

Sultanate of Gujarat stays independent till 1576 when the Mughal emperor Akbar occupied it and annexes it to the Mughal kingdom. The Mughal Emperor Akbar subjugated Malwa and Gujarat in 1570s. The Mughals feint for about 2 centuries till the band was ended by the Marathas in the middle of 18th century. Chhatrapati Shivaji was the enormous Maratha ruler that conquered Gujarat with his martial skill.

Influencing Modernity

In 1600’s era the Dutch, English, French and Portuguese all recognized bases next to the shore of the region. The British East India Company recognized a plant in Surat in year of 1614. It also formed their primary bottom in India, but it was concealed by Bombay after the British obtained it from Portugal in year of 1668. The Company wrested power of much of Gujarat from the Marathas during the Second Anglo-Maratha War. Gujarat has 14 diverse Chief Ministers since its development in 1960. Dr. Jivraj Narayan Mehta was the first Chief Minister of Indian National Congress. In 2001, Keshubhai Patel reconciled and give away power to the current Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP keep hold of a majority in the year of 2002 election and Narendra Modi has since given out as Chief Minister of the state. He became the best ever serving Chief Minister of Gujarat.
