Bardoli has played a key role in India’s freedom struggle movement. In 1928, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Lion of Gujarat led the Bardoli Satyagraha from Surat district. It was the biggest movement organized for farmers affected by the draconian tax policies of the British Government. The Satyagraha inspired thousands of Gujarati farmers and drew them into the movement. The Satyagraha drew national attention as participants swelled in numbers due to excellent leadership provided by Sardar Patel and his lieutenants. Even Gandhiji joined the satyagrahis and brought Bardoli into global focus. It can be said that Bardoli Satyagraha set the benchmark for Satyagraha techniques and methods for future. It dealt the first body blow to the British Empire.

Shree Khedut Sahakari Khand Udyog Mandali Limited is the largest sugar cooperative in Asia and was the first sugar factory to be started in the Gujarat cooperative sector. Founded in 1955, it was inaugurated by Morarji Desai in 1956, who went on to become the Prime Minister of India in 1977. The factory has crushed a record-breaking 18 metric tons of sugar.

Kedareshwar Temple
