Traditional Heritage

The art of fixing beads on cloth with the help of needle and thread is a traditional handicraft which is known as beadwork. History speaks that it was used in the form of jewellery from approximately 5000 years. Gujarat is well known for traditional practices and this art can be used for your home décor, unique collection of fashion accessories and jewellery. Beadwork is used to enhance the look of any attire and exterior of any bag. Looking at the increase in shifts from traditional to modern art, beadwork has its own importance in this cultural country. The artistic capability of the state is famous for the exclusive presentation patterns and designs which improve the traditional importance towards artistic works.

Cultural and Other Properties

The beadworks get along with its cultural importance as the craft is used in many of the religious gatherings as well. Initially the work was limited to Saurashtra which is now known as Surat and to the members of the Kathi land. This art is used in daily practices as a symbol of good luck. In the kingdom, the horse used for marriage purpose was to be decorated with magnificent beadwork. Heritage of this art makes a striking appearance with the decoration work on daily used utensils, cloths, animal wears. Gujarat still continues many of their customary practices to focus on these traditions unlike other states.

Modern Beading

This kind of beading is done as a creative work for the modern jewellery and clothes. Now-a-days the beads which are used for the art are available in many sizes, designs, colours providing a variation to the products. The complex beadwork is very tedious which is done with specialized equipments. The artisans decorate simple work of art easily and beautifully with modern tools.

3D Beading

In comparison to 2D beading, 3D beading is not common because of less promotion work done on the modern beading craft. This is one of the reasons because of which the information about 3d beading is not available on internet. Fishing line or nylon thread is commonly used for stitching the beads in this modern craftsmanship. There are many patterns which can be stitched in 3D beading like animals, jewellery, flowers. Resources for the same art are scarce and difficult to find.

European Bead Work

This kind of work is famous as the animal bones and shells are used for the art instead of beads. In the 16th century, French beaded flowers were being produced for the purpose of decoration. 18th century was an evidence for lamp glass work on clothing’s and was also used for decoration purpose. As a matter of time, the seed beads took place in the crochet and embroidery done on the wearables. Slowly, the skills in this field made them popular worldwide.
