Mhaismal, also known as Maheshmal, is a beautiful but small hill station in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. Located some 39 km to the north of Aurangabad City, this enchanting place is at a height of 1067 and is an important part of the famous Sahyadri Ranges. It is an offbeat tourist spot, that’s missed by most tourists because they are more focused on the more famous landmarks associated with Aurangabad.


Mhaismal is a hugely popular picnic spot for tourists visiting the area and the locals who love the place for its peace and tranquility. It is on the way to the famous Ellora Caves of Aurangabad on National Highway 21 which splits into two that leads to these two famous tourist destinations.

Places to Visit

The road to Mhaismal hill station weaves through a winding little ghat that leads to a straight and steady straight road which takes you straight to the hill. The first major landmark on the route is the Girijamata Temple which is an ancient shrine. Just near to the temple is an enchanting lake. Almost every tourist and visitor to the shrine makes it a point to spend some time absorbing the calmness and the serenity of the surroundings.

A road adjacent to the Girijamata Temple path leads to the place that’s most popular in Mhaismal. It’s the beautiful Balaji temple which is an exact and stunning reproduction of the famous Balaji Temple of Tirupati. On the way back from the temple, there are a few stunning viewpoints that gives you an amazing view of the place including the villages below, the deep valley, the lush green fields and lots more.

Places to Visit Nearby

The hill ranges itself has many spots that offers quiet moments of solitude where you can enjoy the splendor of nature in its entirety or watch the birds and the butterflies flying around in the greenery spread all around. There is Gorakhnath Cave situated near Mhaismal which is also an important religious place in this area. Devgiri Fort is another place that is of historical importance and visited by many tourists who come to Mhaismal.

There are many hotels and resorts near Mhaismal. Most of them are located on the Mhaismal-Aurangabad Road at an average distance of 20-25 km the tourist spot. There are ordinary lodging arrangements as well as three-star and five-star hotels available for the convenience of tourists.

Climate and Best Time to Visit

The climate at Mhaismal is cool and breezy right through the year. You can visit this hill resort any time of the year but to enjoy the best sights of nature, a visit during monsoon is highly recommended. Nature is at its greenest best from June through September.

You can reach Mhaismal from Aurangabad situated 39 km from the place. There are many private as well as MSRTC buses plying on the route. You can get private taxis and cars as well.
