Udaipur

This beautiful place is also famously known as the city of lakes and it is the headquarter administration and a municipal corporation. Mewar was ruled by the Sisodia clan and their capital was shifted to Udaipur from Chittorgarh after it was founded by Maharana Uday Singh. This province became a part of Rajasthan after India’s independence. This place apart from culture, scenic locations and history is known for their palaces of the Rajput era. Often called as the ‘Venice of the East’, most of the palaces has now been converted into posh luxury hotels. Udai Sagar lake, Pichola Lake, Fateh Sagar Lake and Swaroop Sagar are some of the most famous and striking lakes of Udaipur.

City of Lakes – Udaipur

This beauty is also known as the ‘Venice of East’ and the ‘City of Lakes’. One of the finest examples of the cultural and architectural is the City Palace that is located right on the middle of the Pichola Lake. The mist famous Shilpgram festival is the one that pull a lot of crows on the New Year.

Udaipur was founded by Maharana Udai Singh in 1599 AD and as per the mythology, he was guided by some saint who was meditating at the Pichola Lake. Udai Singh died in 1572 and was then succeeded by Maharana Pratap who bravely protected Udaipur from attacks of Mughals.

The most respected icon is Maharana Pratap who bravely fought at the battle of Haldighat in 1576 against the Mughals. Udaipur then became a part of Union of India upon Independence.

City Palace, Udaipur

This Palace just resembles any famous fairytale and is one of the famous heritages building in the Pink city. This white palace is beautifully placed in the heart of the city and is affine example of class Rajput culture and art. It faces the Lake Pichola and was built by Maharaja Udai Singh. He was from the Sisodia clan from 1559 A D. The Rajput, European, and Mughal styles are very evident in the making if this palace even after it being made as per the Vaastushastra texts. Virendra Pol, Jaleb Chowk, Udai Pol and Tripolia Gate are some of the famous gates and are the different entrances to the City Palace. The grid styles many structures like Govind Ji Temple, Diwan-I-Khas, Mubarak Mahak and Chandra Mahal are some of the structures housed in the palace and are designed as per the ‘grid-style’. The mughal style is used to design the gates and walls of the Palace with the beautiful mirrors, artifacts and murals adorning the Palace.

Maharaja Sawai had shifted to Jaipur from Ajmer due to water crunch and the increasing population in the year 1727. He trusted Vidyadhar Bhattacharya with the richness of the cultural heritage. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II is known to have specially made work for making the outer wall of the Palace. He then designed the best palace as per the Vaastushastra texts.

This museum is located at 2 kms east of Udaipur.

Pichola Lake

One of the most striking and the beautiful lakes is the Lake Pichola and is located at the heart of the city. This is one of the largest and the oldest lakes of Udaipur. The water surrounds the Jag Mandir, Jag Niwas or the Lake Palace Hotel. It is said that the name of this lake is derived from a village called Picholi.

Jagdish Temple

This temple is at the City Palace complex, Udaipur and reflects the architecture of Indo-Aryan Style. This temple was built in the year of 1651 by Maharana Jagat Singh who was ruling Udaipur during the year 1628-53. This temple is dedicated to the preserver of Universe, Lord Vishnu.

Handicrafts

Paintings, marble articles, terracotta and silver articles are very famous from Udaipur.
