The concept of Postal Index Number was introduced in the country on the Independence Day of the year 1972. Important areas and sub districts of Rajasthan are assigned pincodes. There are close to 35 important districts that have been identified in Rajasthan and have been assigned unique pincodes. There are totally 6 digits in a pincode, out of which, the first one represents the region for which the pincode is allocated. The area within the region, known as sub region is represented by the second digit of the pincode, while the sorting area inside the district is represented by the third digit. The last three digits of the pincode are representations of the post offices in the individual areas within the district.
