Nabha Sahib – “A Blend of Religious and Historical Charm”

Gurudwara Nabha Sahib is located in Zirakpur of Patiala main road. It is an important place that reflects the history of Sikhs from 1695. The Gurudwara is a prominent place not only for pilgrims but also for art lovers. The exquisite art and architecture of Nabha Sahib reflects richness and grandeur of the previous era. It is also a very important source of Sikh scriptures and ancient texts.

Many years back, Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded and his sacred head was lying, without anybody daring to pick up his head out of fear. Soon a very strong storm covered the city like a dark blanket. During the storm, one of the devotees of the Guru fled with his head and burnt the house of the latter to cremate the sacred body of the divine soul. On his way back to Chandigarh, the devotee met a Muslim fakir who gave him shelter and also kept the sacred head of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

The Fakir also expressed his desire to meet Guru Gobind Singh ji. Many years later after winning the battle of Bhangani, Guru Gobind Singh Ji visited the place and also met the fakir. He went and visited the place where the sacred head of Guru Tej Bhadur was placed and paid tribute to it. After the death of fakir, a shrine was constructed within the precincts of the Gurudwara. Since then, large number of followers comes here to pay tribute and offer prayers in the Gurudwara.

Jor Mela is celebrated here with great pomp and show by the people of the region. The main purpose of the fair is to give tribute to the tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The shrine of the Fakir within the vicinity of the Gurudwara also has religious significance for the followers of Sikhism.
