Alai Minar

Alai Minar is situated in the complex of Qutub Minar and was built by the second ruler of the Khilji Dynasty, Ala-ud-Din Khilji. He wished to construct a tower, twice as tall as the Qutub Minar but could not finish it, as he died before that. It is an un-finished minar, which had its projected height twice than that of the Qutub Minar. After the death of Ala-ud-din Khalji the construction of tower could not be completed.

Ala-ud-din Khillji’s predecessor Qutub-ud-din Aibak inspired him in building this Minar; only after which he planned to construct a grand minar so as to commemorate his victories. As per his intentions, the minar was anticipated to be erected with a size double of Qutub Minar in each and every aspect. However, he immediately died after the completion of the first storey that holds in ruins in a corner of the Qutab Complex today. Amusingly, none of his successors took up the completion cause of the project started by him as had happened in Qutab Minar’s case. Alia Minar is built by the Ala-ud-Din Khalji during the ruling period (1296 – 1316 AD).
