Brief Description

Beef Fry is a spicy and more popular dish from the Southern State of Kerala in India. Beef Fry is also known as many more name like Beef Ulartiyathu, Beef Olathiyathu and Beef Fry Ulathiyathu etc. It is made with deep fry the beef until the beef properly dry. Learn how to make Beef by following this recipe.

Ingredients for Beef Fry

  • 2 lbs or 1 kg approx - Cubed Beef (I use Stew Beef for this recipe)
  • 1 big - Thinly Sliced Onions
  • 4 - Slit Green Chillies
  • A sprig - Curry Leaves
  • 1/2 Cup [optional] - Coconut Slices (Thenga Kothu)
  • 2 tsp - Coriander Powder
  • 1 tsp - Red Chili Powder
  • 1 tbsp - Meat Masala Powder
  • 1 tsp - Home Made Garam Masala Powder
  • Salt (As per your taste)
  • 2 tbsp - Oil

How to make Beef Fry

  1. First wash the beef nicely and strain it well.

  2. Now marinade beef with all the ingredients (given above) and set aside about ½ - 1 hour.

  3. Now cook the beef with half-a-cup of water. Allow it to cook till the desired consistency is reached (pressure cook it on medium heat for 2 whistles).

  4. Meantime in a pan, heat oil and saute onions, curry leaves and green chillies till it becomes translucent.

  5. Add the coconut slices and saute it continues about 2-minutes.

  6. Mix meat masala powder, chilly powder, coriander powder and garam masal powder into it and saute it for few minutes.

  7. Now take them out the half cooked meat from the pressure cooker onto the pan. Roast it continue till masala gets coated on the meat. Add salt as per your taste.

  8. Allow to roast it on average flame about 10-15 minutes until they change color in golden brown.

  9. Beef fry is ready to enjoy eating and serve with rice/chappathi.

  10. Remaining half can be use as a curry/gravy with Appam, roti etc.
