Varapoha Falls

The beautiful Varapoha Falls are located at Jamboti, which lies at a distance of 20 km from Belgaum and about 18 km from Khanapur. This waterfall is born out of the famous Mandovi River, which arises from Jamboti Hill. Mandovi River is considered to be the longest river in the state of Goa. Also known as Mahadayi River, it is surrounded by dense hilltop forests and joined by Marcidha nala and Paneera nala.

Speciality

River Mandovi spurts from 150 feet height in a gorge which forms a spectacular sight. One can also spot a Hulli Salinga which is associated with the poisonous tarantula. Varapoha Falls is one of the best destinations to visit by nature lovers. It is frequently visited by botanists for the lush greenery. If you are visiting this place, ensure to carry your camera because it offers many opportunities for a photo op. The falls are a great place to enjoy a trek or picnic with family and friends.

Kapileshwara Temple

This ancient temple is also called Dakshina Kashi as it forms part of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India. This temple overflows with devotees during Mahashivratri as they come here to make offerings and be a part of this religious celebration. It has shrines of Lord Hanuman, Ganesha and Sai Baba.

Naviltirtha

This popular picnic spot is situated at a distance of 90 kilometers from Belgaum. It is said that earlier this place was full of peacocks hence it was named as Naviltirtha.

Ramakrishna Ashrama

This Ashrama is where Swami Vivekananda had resided for 12 days. It lays stress on spiritual, welfare and charitable activities.

Kittur Fort

This fort finds its location in Honnidibba and is well explored by the archaeologists and historians. Apart from the beautiful palace, it also has a temple of Kalmeshwara, Basavanna, Maruti and Dyamavva. The fort is almost ruined now which was once owned by Rani Chennamma. One can also find some archeological monuments and museums which belonged to the Chalukyan times.

Kamala Basti

This place is constructed in the Chalukyan style and holds an idol of Neminatha. One of the grand attractions of this place is a lotus carving called as ‘Mukhamantapa’ on the ceiling.

The best time to visit Varapoha Falls is between December and January.

How to Reach

By Rail

One can reach Varapoha Falls via train from Khanapur railway station.

By Road

Located 60 km from Belgaum, one can get here by private cabs or state-run buses. Jamboti and Khanapur are the other neighboring places from where one can drive to Varapoha Falls.

By Air

Belgaum Airport is well-connected to most other parts of India. It is about 60 km from these falls.
