Bandaje Falls

Located on the Ghats of Charmadi is the Bandaje falls that are part of Western Ghats situated in Belthangady Taluk of Kannada district. The falls are bounded by a trekking route. There are two different access points to reach Bandaje falls, one of them is via Mangalore to Ujire route at a distance of 25 km from Ujire. The other route is traversed by trekking a distance of 10 km from Kadirudyavara. The local people call this falls as Bandaje Arbi where in Tulu language Arbi is referred as falls.

The waterfall lies 700 meters above the sea level. The fall drops from the height of 200 feet from the cliff of the hill and gives a fantastic view. The waterfall is formed of a single stream and further joins the tributary of Netravathi.

The sunset view at this falls is magnificent. The varied colors in the sky during sunset adds to the beautification of the waterfalls. The surroundings of the waterfall are clean and still untouched.

It requires high energy to trek at the top of the waterfall and this trek is very adventurous.

The trekking path is surrounded by lush and green forest and majorly comprised of tropical trees. The origin of the trek route begins from Valambra that is located near Somanthadka village. The trek route is very eye pleasing. The entire trek route is 15 km long and hence it gets tiring while one reaches to the top of the waterfall. The view from the top of the wall is mesmerizing. It takes around 4 to 5 hours to cover the trek route. There are local guides to help the trekkers through their journey up the waterfall and usually charge Rs 300 to 500.

People can also enjoy camping around the waterfalls. The tourist must bring their own camping equipment’s.

The other attraction near to the waterfall is Ballalarayana Durg Fort. This fort was constructed by Hoysala Kings. The current condition of the fort is in ruined state. The fort is located on the top of the mountain and is bounded by the green dense forest.

How to Get There

By Air

The nearest airport is the Mangalore International airport situated in Bajpe.

By Rail

The nearest rail line is in Mangalore from where local taxi or transport can be taken to reach the waterfall.

By Road

The waterfall is 25 km away from Ujire from where local transport can be taken to reach the base of the waterfall.
