Covered with forests and meadows, Chandel Valley is a beautiful place in the Kathua District of Jammu and Kashmir. Located just 10 Km from the glaciated Bani Valley at an altitude of 4200 Ft, Chandel Valley features beautiful orchards of apples, walnuts and almonds. For anyone visiting Kathua, Chandel Valley is a wonderful destination to spend some time at.

Chandel Valley sees the Chandel spring flowing through it making the area even more beautiful. The refreshing mountain air and the serene ambiance serve as a relaxing getaway for tourists. Chandel Valley is best visited during the summers when the area sees full bloom and the views are excellent. The valley is located within close proximity to the town of Bani in Kathua District. It can also be accessed from the town of Kathua.

There are several temples and sightseeing options within close reach of Chandel Valley. Some of these temples include Airwan Temple about 15 Km from Kathua, Asha Purani Mandir, etc. The other attractions close to Chandel Valley are Banjal also known as the ‘Garden of Natural Flowers’, Panyalag a small town located on a hilltop, the beautiful Dullangal Valley about 12Km from Bani, etc. All these places can easily be accessed from Bani and are located along the different exciting treks. All around the area tourists can enjoy several opportunities of trekking and nature walks. Visiting Chandel Valley is a completely different experience.

The Jammu airport or the Sawari Airport is the closest airport to Kathua. It is about 72 Km from Kathua and can be reached by bus or taxi.

By Train

The nearest broad gauge railhead is at Jammu. Jammu is connected to several major cities of India by trains like Kolkata, New Delhi, Rourkela, Jamshedpur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Udhampur, etc. from Jammu tourists can get buses or taxis to reach Kathua.

By Road

Kathua is conveniently linked to several major cities of Jammu and Kashmir by road. Buses can be availed from major cities such as Jammu, Udhampur, Shimla, Katra, Pathankot, Srinagar, Chandigarh and New Delhi. Jammu & Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation bus service can be availed easily to get to Kathua. Taxis and car rentals are also available.

Best Time to Visit Chandel Valley

Chandel Valley has an amazing and pleasant climate. The winters are cold and snowy. The summer months are comparatively pleasant and quite cool. The best time to visit Chandel Valley is from March to June.

  • Winters (October to February) are quite cold in Chandel Valley. The temperature usually goes below zero degrees. Snowfall is common in the area and tourists get a chance to enjoy exciting views and fun filled winter sports during this season.
  • Summers (March to June) are pleasant and features moderate temperature. Summer is the most suitable season to visit Chandel Valley. The peaks can be seen covered with snow. The valley can be seen in its full bloom during the summer months.
  • Monsoon (July to September) months see heavy rainfall. Visiting Chandel Valley during this time can be a bit difficult.

The summer months are the best time for tourists to visit Chandel Valley. This is when visitors can see the best of the area. Winters are also good to visit but the area gets covered in snow. Tourists who wish to enjoy snowfall will like this weather. Visiting Chandel Valley during the monsoon months is not a good choice.
