Gurudwara Damdama Sahib

The Gurudwara DamDama Sahib in Delhi is a famous Gurudwara located near Humayun’s Tomb and is associated with Guru Gobind Singh, the Tenth Sikh Guru and commemorates the meeting of Guru Gobind Singh with Prince Muzzam or Bahadur Shah in the year 1707. Located on the outer Ring Road, it is one of the most visited Gurudwaras in the capital of India as it is visited by Sikhs each year to celebrate a festival named Hola Moholla.

As already mentioned, this Gurudwara commemorates the association that was shared by Guru Gobind Singh and Emperor Bahadur Shah. The prince who was not the emperor of the country at that time, meet the Guru to seek his help in his battle of succession with this brother after the death of Aurangzeb. They met near the tomb of Humayun and planned strategies to win the succession battle. Together they watched bull fights and elephant fights that were organized for their entertainment. Guru Gobind Singh promised help only if the prince punish all those who were responsible for the massacre of his sons and for ruining his army and city of Anandpur. Guru Gobind Singh helped the prince defeat his brother and become the emperor of India.

During their meeting, the Guru gave the prince information that helped him win the battle against his own brother. Later, he told the emperor the names of the kings and army personnel of the hilly areas who were responsible for inflicting terror and murdering and torturing the innocent Sikhs. These were the same people who forced the Sikhs to vacate Anandpur and took away and destroyed the valuable literary treasure of the Guru. The prince promised to punish all these people once he became the emperor of India.
