Kirthai Dam

Kirthai Dam is proposed to be located at Kidur which is 16 kms proximate of Gulabgarh in Kishtwar District of J&K. This project site is best because the river flows in a very deep gorge with a mean elevation of 1650 m. Chenab River is about 85 m wide and both the supports of the river are steep in slope. Exposed rocks on both the banks make the view scenic and beautiful.

Mechanism

Kirthai Dam (stage I) is being run over river Chenab with an approximation of height with 121 m. The out of the plant is said to be 250 MW. The system of the plant will have an underground power house which will have a small dam constructed for eco-flow on the toe of the power house. The secondary powerhouse will have a design to discharge 9.5 cumec water from the right bank of the river.

Investment

The project of Kirthai Dam has an estimated cost of Rs. 15000 million. This investment includes setting up a 121 m high concrete dam across Chenab River and an underground power house to house 240 MW of hydro electricity. This proposal is being governed by the victuals of Indus Waters Treaty.

How to Reach

Kirthai Dam is come-at-able through Kishtwar, Galhar Sansari Road. The nearest town to reach the dam is Kishtwar which is also located at about 80 km from the project site. The site is connected for the tourists of Jammu through National Highway 1A and 1B. The nearest railway station is Udhampur Railway Station and nearest Airport is Jammu Airport.
