Sringeri Sharada Peetham
A monastery established in the 8th century AD by Adi Shankara located in southern part of country is named as the Sringeri Sharada Peetham. The monastery is located on banks of River Tunga situated in district Chikkamagaluru in state of Karnataka.
This math is part of four Hindu Advaitamat has and is also sometimes referred as Dakshinamnaya Sringeri Sharada Paeetam. The head of this math is referred to as Jagadguru or also at times is called as Shankaracharya. The 36th and current head of the math is Shri Bharati Tirtha Swamiji.
Sringeri is also responsible of maintaining numerous temples and Vedic schools. They are also handling the responsibility of running a hospital and many colleges. The temple of Sharada is under supervision of Sringerimatha. The other responsibility taken by Sringerimatha is by conserving the natural habitat of Sringeri.
The most important festival celebrated in Sringeri is Navratri. During this time, there are various pujas performed in the temple in honor of Sharadamba Goddess during the nine days of Navratri.
Few of the other historic temples of the area are Sri Sharada temple and Sri Vidyashankara temple.
Best time to Visit
The most favorable tome to visit the temple is in the months from October to April.
How to Reach
By Train
There are two railway lines that are closely located to reach Sringeri and these are Shimogarail head and Koppa rail head.
By Bus
The closest town to reach Sringeri is Koppa from where local transport can be taken to reach the temple.
By Air
The nearest airport is at Mangalore.
