Sree Sidhaganga Mutt Tumkur

Sree Sidhaganga Mutt is an ashram dedicated to the memory of Shiva Yogi Siddapurushas. Situated in Tumkur district of Karnataka, the ashram is one of the oldest in the state and is associated with numerous social and charitable causes.

History

Sree Siddaganga Mutt is an ancient and unique kind of Gurukul or traditional learning school. Established in 15th century, it is located amidst stunningly beautiful and peaceful landscape that makes everyone who visits here become one with Mother Nature. Sri Gosala Siddeswara Swami, the founder of the Mutt was from the Shunya Simhasana. It is a spiritual academy that has been in existence from the time of Basaweshwara, a renowned social reformer.

The Present In-Charge

The activities and administration of the mutt is now being managed by Sree Shiva Kumara Swami, a 104 year old veteran social worker. The celebrated Swami was born in Veerapura near Magadi Taluka. He has been actively involved in various operations of the mutt from 1941. He is also the founder of the Sree Siddaganga Educational Society. His zeal and dedication are primarily responsible for the growth and development of the mutt as a full-fledged social organization. He is the recipient of the highest civilian award instituted by the state government.

The Objectives of the Mutt

The mutt is focused on providing assistance to the deprived and to the underprivileged. The Gurukul provides assistance in the form of food, shelter and education, to more than 8,000 needy children of ages five to 16, who are deprived of the basic essentials of living a decent and respectful life. The shelter is open to people of religions and faiths with no discrimination to any caste or community.

The Sree Siddaganga Mutt also operates a school for the visually challenged. The school takes care of the food and educational needs of more than 100 such students and also offers independent hostel arrangements.

The Gurukul has been providing meals to devotees visiting the ashram under the Anna Dasoha scheme at a cost of just five rupees per person.

The Sidhaganga Mutt is 66 km from Bangalore and can be easily reached by state transport or private buses. There are taxis also available from Bangalore. The ashram is 9 km from Tumkur.

By Rail

The nearest railway station is Tumkur which is 9 km away.

By Air

The nearest airport is Bangalore International Airport.
