Known for its forts, temples, palaces and gardens, Jammu city is the capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from being a gateway to Kashmir and Srinagar, Jammu is home to historic monuments and sprawling and scenic gardens such as Bagh-e-Bahu and the Mughal Garden. Characterized by extensive lawns, splendid fountains and enthralling flowers, Bagh-e-Bahu garden sits on the bank of Tawi River close to Bahu Fort.

Ambling around the garden, visitors enjoy panoramic views of beautiful flowers and fountains on either side. A great place to become one with nature, Bagh-e-Bahu holds various small stoned sculptures that add classy beauty to the lush green garden.

About the Place

Top of Bagh-e-Bahu garden holds a vast artificial lake that’s enclosed within extensive lawns with green turf, stoned walkways and flower beds. Offering a splendid view, Bagh-e-Bahu holds an attractive show of musical fountains to attract visitors all year round. This place was laid in early eighties by the government of the Jammu and Kashmir in classy Mughal style architecture.

Bagh-e-Bahu means Garden at Bahu in Urdu. This garden sits by the side of the Bahu Fort, which was built around 3,000 years ago by Raja Bahulochan. With a variety of trees, flowers and shrubs, Bagh-e-Bahu makes a popular choice for tourists to spend time amidst nature. The garden also houses a small cafeteria at one of the corners for refreshments. There’s an aquarium and an awareness centre to attract visitors. This place also has a 220 meters aquarium and it’s the largest underground aquarium in India.

A famous terraced garden, Bagh-e-Bahu looks attractive and makes a favorite picnic spots for locals as well as tourists.

Best Time to Visit

Jammu stays cool throughout the year and is pleasant to visit. However, the best time to visit Bagh-e-Bahu is from September to April.

Entry fee to Bagh-e-Bahu is nominal INR 5 per person.

Timing

Bagh-e-Bahu garden remains open from 08:00 am to 20:00 pm every day.

How to Reach


By Rail

Situated at a distance of about 4 km from Jammu Tawi Railway Station, reaching Bagh-e-Bahu is convenient. Jammu station is connected to all major cities on Indian Railway Network such as New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata and Trivandrum.

By Air

This garden sits at a distance of 9 km from Jammu Airport, which is well-linked with major Indian cities by regular flights operating on a daily basis.

By Road

Jammu sits on NH 1A and is well connected with major Indian cities that operate regular bus and taxi services.

Visitors can hire a cab outside the Railway Station or Airport or hop on an auto-rickshaw, directly to the Bagh-e-Bahu garden.
