Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala was built with the aim of creating awareness about science in the community. Built on a sprawling 72 acres of land, this science city is the largest and second science city in India. The foundation stone to this Science city was laid by the former Prime Minister of India Shri. I. K. Gujral on October 17, 1997. The first phase of the Science city was inaugurated by His Excellency Lt. Gen (Retd) S.F. Rodrigues, who was the then Governor of Punjab on March 19, 2005. It is the joint venture of Government of India and Government of Punjab at a total cost of Rs 100 crores.

The first phase of this science city included space theatre, laser theatre, 3D theatre, flight simulator, earth quake simulator and more. An energy park is also designed to educate and create awareness among the people which is developed in collaboration with Punjab Energy Development Agency. It gives an insight into the latest technologies that can be used to conserve energy and wise use of renewable energy. The main aim of this science city is to educate the masses about the need for conservation of the same.

The Dinosaur Park is one of the major attractions here which has been developed in 2.63 hectare of land and demonstrates its evolution and the reasons for dinosaurs’ extinction from earth. Here 45 models of different dinosaurs have been displayed in their natural habitat. Moreover a 35 feet long structure of volcano with four moving dinosaurs and  sound effects has also been arranged here.

The theatres that play an essential role in this science city have a seating capacity for more than 300 persons and are complete with systems equipped with the latest and advanced technologies. The digital planetarium constructed here gives the visitor a 3D view of the night sky through real time graphics and digital sound and graphics.

For the visitors who seek to have a thrill of adventure, the museum has arranged 3D theatre and simulators. Earth quake simulators and flight simulators are created to give the visitors the feel and intensity through explaining the scientific reason behind each. A 30 seater theatre has been provided to instil the visitor with a wonderful adventurous experience.

The Pushpa Gujral Science City is still in the developing stage and in the second phase new projects and galleries are being planned to be launched.

Significance

Learning the importance of science in daily life and the various aspects of science that touches people’s daily life is exhibited through various galleries in this science theme park. It is the perfect place for students and people of any age to closely understand the science of various aspects of life. This science city has been organised in a way that it can impart learning through fun and interaction. The main attraction here is an 18 foot long model of Dinosaur. Other arrangements done here are space theatres, simulators, laser theatres, 3D theatres and more.

How to Reach

As the Pushpa Gujral Science City is located in the Jalandhar- Kapurthala road it is can easily reached through road, rail or by air.

By Road

This Science museum is only 15 kms away from Jalandhar and 5 kms from Kapurthala and hence buses are easily available. Moreover, taxi service is also available both from Jalandhar and Kapurthala.

By Rail

There are trains that run from Delhi and Amritsar to Jalandhar.  Jalandhar is also well connected with trains. It is the nearest railway station to the Science museum which is only 17 kms away.

By Air

Raja Sansi Airport in Amritsar is located only 80kms away and Chandigarh airport only 160 Kms. Both are the closest airports to reach the Pushpa Gujral Science City.

Time to Visit

The Pushpa Gujral Science City is open 365 days a year from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.
