Attiveri Bird Sanctuary
Situated in a village in Mundgod Taluk of Uttar Kanada district, Attiveri Bird Sanctuary is around 15 kms from Mundgod and at a distance of 43 kms from Hubli-Dharwad. It is spread over 2.23 km sq and is dotted around the Attiveri reservoir. Birds like Indian and little cormorants, Pied and White throated Kingfishers, Indian Grey Hornbill, Barn Swallow, cattke egret, Eurasian spoonsbill can be found this bird sanctuary and spotting such beautiful creators is a treat to the eyes. One can also find those many aquatic creatures around this sanctuary.
Location
Located in the region of Uttara Karnataka, this was declared as a bird sanctuary in 1994 as the number of birds had drastically increased. Now, it is spread over an area of 22.3 sq km. The area is covered with dry deciduous forests and is spread across an area of 22.3 sq km. One can also spot many farmlands around this sanctuary which has rich diversity of insects. They act as a main source for the water birds to feed in. One can find more than 79 species of birds arriving from more than 22 countries in this bird sanctuary which is the best part of this bird sanctuary.
Flora & Fauna
This sanctuary is a home to those many bird species that include birds like Intermediate Egret, Little Egret, Black-headed Ibis, Little Cormorant, Green Bee-eater, Darter, Indian Pond Heron, Great Egret, Grey Francolin, Indian Cormorant and other come here in the month of October.
The other birds that can found in this bird sanctuary are:
- Brown Shrike
- Bay-backed Shrike
- Southern Grey Shrike
- Barn Swallow
- Rose-ringed Parakeet and many others
Also, spotting wildlife animals like Small Indian Civet, Indian Pangolin, Jackal, Wild Boar, Grey Mongoose, Indian Porcupine, Jungle Cat, Common Palm Civet can be found grazing in this vicinity.

The best time to visit this sanctuary is between the months of November to March.
