In Jammu and Kashmir, dominantly three major religions are followed – Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism. However, Islam stands ahead in terms of the total population, and you will find a majority of Muslims in this state. While Hindus are few in numbers in J & K, the followers of Buddhism majorly inhabit Ladakh and surrounding areas in the state.

Islam

The Kashmir valley is predominately inhabited by the Muslim population, which constitutes almost 90% of the total population in the state. In Jammu, Kargil, as well as other districts, Islam forms a major segment of the population. Here, the Muslims are typically divided into two sects – Shias and Sunnis.

Hinduism

Hinduism is the second major religion in Jammu and Kashmir, mostly comprising of Gujjars and Kashmiri Pandits.
