B R Hills

The B.R Hills are situated in the confluence of both the Eastern and Western Ghats and are popular because of their serene beauty and fantastic ecosystem. The hills are situated in the south – east region of the state of Karnataka (Tamil Nadu Border region) and the area surrounding the hills has been declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary and also declared as a tiger reserve since 2010.

History

The Biligiriranga Hills do not have much of a history. The area is full of wilderness and has been the same since a long time. The main attraction of the place is the varied amount of wildlife and vegetation that can be found in the site and also the fact that it offers a pleasant climate throughout the year and is considered as a great getaway place for tourists.

Geography

The hills are located in Chamarajanagar District of Karnataka and are contiguous with the famous Sathyamangalam Wildlife Sanctuary. The approach to the hills can be made from either the Chamarajanagar region or from Yelandur. A large variety of flora and fauna is supported by the hills and this is the major tourist attraction of the place.

Attractions

Some of the major attractions in the B.R Hill range are:

Biligirirangaswamy Temple

This is by far, the most important tourist attraction in the hill region. The B.R hills are famous for the Lord Ranganatha or Lord Venkatesha. Thousands of pilgrims come to this site every year and there are many festivals like the ratha festival and the annual car festival. Special pooja is done for the deities on every Friday and a lot of local people come to attend the pooja each week.

Wildlife Sanctuary

The BRT Wildlife Sanctuary is the major attraction that drives the tourists to the B.R hills. People from all over the country come to visit this famous Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger reserve on the confluence of Eastern and Western Ghats and enjoy the variety of flora and fauna that is found in the region.

Best time to Visit

The best time to visit B.R Hills is said to be the summer season. The reason for this is the fact that the climate in the region is quite pleasant and moreover, one can find a larger variety of wildlife in the region during the summers than in the rainy season or the winters.

Rainy season must be avoided at all costs, as the region experiences heavy rainfall and therefore, it becomes difficult for the tourists to enjoy the beauty of the place.

Accommodation

Since the place is primarily a tourist spot, there are many hotels and resorts in the vicinity. Tourists can also find tourist cottages inside the wildlife sanctuary and enjoy the wildlife first hand. Many notable and luxurious hotels can be found in the region and if somebody is a little low on cash, then they can even find decent and affordable accommodation in the region.

How to Reach

B.R Hills is located quite near to Mysore and thus, the connectivity to the place is best from Mysore. Mysore is connected to the entire country via a network of roads, rail and air transport and thus, people can easily reach Mysore and from there, the B.R Hills can be easily approached via roadways.
