Famous Hill Stations in Karnataka

Coorg

The beauty of this hill station can be understood from its nickname, “Scotland of India”. Located at about 265km from Bangalore, Coorg is known for its coffee estates, pleasant climate, natural beauty and awesome food. The best time to come here is between the months of October and May. Coorg is located at a height of 1525m above sea level on the Western Ghats. It has two main characteristics – largest producer of coffee in the country and the largest receiver of rainfall in Karnataka. Coorg contributes handsomely to the tourism department of Karnataka, because it is not only a place of natural beauty, but also a place known for its amazing collection of flora and fauna. Coorg is also home to the Talacauvery, Brahmagiri and Pushpagiri wildlife sanctuaries and the famous Nagarhole national park.

Agumbe

This beautiful hill station is nicely nestled between the districts of Udupi and Shimoga. It is one of the most visited tourist sites in Karnataka. This hill station’s nickname is “Cherrapunji of South India”, because it receives a great deal of rainfall every year. This place is a haven for trekking enthusiasts because the trekking trails here are simply awesome. When you come here, never miss the enticing view of the sunset and the historic 14th century temple built in Hoysala style of architecture. There are many beautiful waterfalls here, where adults and kids have a good time bathing and swimming. There is a famous Krishna temple in Udupi and therefore, people who come to the temple also make it a point to come to Agumbe. Hence it is not surprising to see lots of tourists in Agumbe all through the year.
