Fees And Expenditure
The Kailash Mansarovar Pilgrimage is arranged by the Ministry of External Affairs Government of India and Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited and also the Chinese Government agencies in Tibet. Many private tour operators are also conducting this tour now and their cost depends on the type of transport, number of days that are needed for the completion of the pilgrimage and the facilities that they provide.
The cost of the Yatra includes the cost of medical tests that are to be conducted before a pilgrim is selected for the Yatra. Qualifying in the medical tests is a prerequisite to be granted permission to participate in the pilgrimage. The fees and expenditure is decided every year and is declared at the time of announcing the pilgrimage. The following fees and expenditure is announced this year:
Rs.32, 000 as fee is paid to KMVN which includes all taxes, out of this, a non-refundable Deposit of Rs. 5,000/- in the form of Bank Demand Draft in favor of “Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited”, payable in Delhi, has to be first paid to confirm participation in the Yatra. Rs. 27000 which is the balance amount is payable at the commencement of the pilgrimage from Delhi.
- Rs.2, 400: Chinese visa fee is payable in cash.
- Rs.3, 100: Charges for medical examination to Delhi Heart and Lung Institute.
- Rs.2, 500: Charges for Stress Echo Test if a selected Yatri is required to undergo stress echo test.
- Rs.20, 000: Porter and Pony charges on the Indian side. Actually comes thoroughly to Rs.44, 000 at the exchange rate of USD 1 equals Rs.55.
- US $800: Payable in cash to Chinese authorities on entry into Tibet for travel arrangements there.
- RMB 1,410: For hiring of Porter and Pony on the Chinese side. It works out to roughly Rs.13, 000 at the exchange rate of RMB 1 equals Rs.9.
- RMB 600: For hiring of cooks on the Chinese side. Approx. Rs.5400.
- Rs. 2000: Contribution towards pool for group activities.
- Actual expenses for expenditure on adequate medicines, clothing, and food stores etc.
The total expenses are approximately Rs. 1, 17000. There are rules that cover refunds and cancellations which must be carefully read. All payments also have deadlines, before which payments have to be made.
