Talkatora Garden

Talkatora Garden is a Mughal styled garden located in Delhi. It is famous for its indoor stadium which hosts various sports events all around the year. The name of the stadium is Talkatora Stadium and there is a tank (tal) located at the western side of the garden. This tank is surrounded by parts of the Delhi ridge which forms a natural depression resembling a bowl or katora. This is what gives the name to the garden.

It is a beautiful garden and home to various species of flowering plants and it would take around an hour to explore this magnificent garden. It is located along the main Willingdon Crescent Road and happens to be a popular tourist destination. This landscaped garden is also perfect for a leisurely evening walk and this is one reason why this garden is visited by many Delhites all around the year.

There is rich history associated with this particular garden in Delhi. As already mentioned above, this garden got its name from a tank that was present during the Mughal era. This tank or tal existed at the west side of the garden. However, the tank got filled up with time but there is an octagonal pavilion that exists even today. This domed shaped structure exists at the two northwestern ends of the garden and it was built to stop rainwater from flowing into the tank.

Another historical fact states that the area around this garden was used as the camping ground by the Maratha Army and this was the same place where the Marathas were beaten by Mughals in the battle of 1738.

However, this history does not matter to any of the visitors who visit this place. Most people know this place because of the stadium.
