War Museum

Located at Kumaon Regimental Centre in Ranikhet, War Museum is a prominent memorial in Uttarakhand. The museum was set up in 1978. The museum is worth a visit as it has a rich collection of war trophies and flags of various regiments of Indian Army.

In addition, you can see various army uniforms, arms and ammunitions and important historical documents which relate to various wars which Indian Army has fought. One of the key possessions in the museum is an enemy boat which was captured from the LTTE during Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka.

Climate

Ranikhet can be visited during any time of the year. The summer season starts in early March and lasts till June. Temperature is in the range of 30 degree during these months. 

Snowfall occurs during the month of December and January in Ranikhet and the town dawns a white mantle.

Timings

War museum is open throughout the week from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

How to Reach

By Air

Pantnagar Airport located at a distance of 115 km is the nearest air link to the town. Taxis can be hired from the airport itself for a comfortable ride to the War Museum.

By Rail

If travelling by train, you can disembark at Kathgodam which is located at a distance of 68 km from Ranikhet.

By Road

Ranikhet is also connected by road route and Uttarakhand State Road Transport Corporation operates regular bus service between New Delhi and Ranikhet and other important towns in the region.
