Butterfly Museum

Located at Jones Estate in Sat Tal, the Butterfly Museum is a major attraction in Sattal. The museum is home to over 2,500 species of butterflies. In addition, you can see another 1100 species of insects in this museum which have been collected from various regions of Uttarakhand. The museum is located in the premises of Sattal Methodist Ashram.

Federic Smetacek also known by the name of ‘the butterfly man’ created this museum. Researchers and other visitors from world over visit the museum to gain an insight into the insect world.

Climate

The region experiences pleasant climate throughout the year. You can visit Butterfly Museum at any time of the year except the monsoon months. As the place is located at an altitude of 1230 mts, winters are mild with minimal snowfall.

Timings

The museum can be visited on all days of the week from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

How to Reach

By Air

Pantnagar Airport located at a distance of 61 km from Sattal is the nearest air link. Taxis can be hired from the airport for a comfortable journey to the butterfly museum.

By Rail

If travelling by train, disembark at Kathgodam which is 33km from Sattal. Buses and taxis are available at Kathgodam for a comfortable ride to the museum.

By Road

Sattal is well connected by road and Uttarakhand State Road transport Corporation operates regular bus service from New Delhi to Nanital and you can disembark at Sattal.
