Dubare Elephant Camp

This famous elephant camp was an outcome of a project between the Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd and the forest department. One can find plenty of elephants at this camp and they are trained under the natural habitat. This helps them understand the different aspects of the biology, history, ecology and many other aspects. Those who visit this park can not only see them but also indulge in those many activities related to elephants. In Dubare Elephant Camp, one can find more than 150 elephants in the surroundings. The elephants those who are a part of the Mysore Dasara also undergo a training at the Dubare Elephant Camp under the naturalists. With the logging of operations being ceased, the forest department is in a dilemma as to what to do with all these tigers. These elephants now are just used for the purpose of elephant rides for the tourists. Also for their maintenance and mahouts, the forest department has been spending a good amount of money to sustain these elephants.

History

Earlier, this was the only place that had those different species of elephants that were not to be seen anywhere. It was basically started with an aim to make people aware of those many elephant related activities and also let people visitors participate in the same.

Wildlife

One can find a variety of species of wildlife at Dubare Elephant Camp which means one can also spot those many uncommon herds of spotted deers and Sambar grazing on the fields or at the river side drinking water from the banks. What may surprise you is that you may see Asiatic elephants taking a bath and dip in the river side. Also, it is a sight to see the elephants taking a dip in the river or spraying water on them through their trunks. If it is your lucky day, you will also see elusive crocodiles taking a dip in the water.

Those who love to watch and hear the birds chirping, this place is a paradise for them. One can find birds of diverse species which are a treat to the eyes. The birds chirping, insects humming and the surroundings are a treat or the senses. One can never forget the feeling of being in this elephant camp. Apart from these things, one can also see the peacocks strutting and dancing and displaying their plumage as the sun starts to set. Surrounding these, a flock of birds can also be seen flying around in the sky, adding a special touch to the surroundings and the place. Certainly, all this captures the mood of any person visiting this elephant camp.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit this elephant camp is from the month of September to May. This is the time when all species of animals, birds and insects can be seen if your luck is very good.
