Tourism Offices

Every tourist resort located in the State has a Tourist Office of the Tourism Department. Other than the State, they have six promotional workplaces located in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmadabad, New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai. Further, every division of Jammu and Kashmir has tourism’s provincial Director. The Engineering Division is also under the control of the department to implement and execute different schemes. In addition, the department comprise of a Planning Wing to formulate and monitor the plan schemes and a Publicity Wing for the general promotion and marketing.

“Jammu and Kashmir Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1978/1982” is an exceptional legislation enacted by the State for the purpose of protecting the interests of sightseers spending their time in Jammu and Kashmir. According to this legislature, extraordinary powers are vested upon the Tourist Officers placed in various resorts, as stipulated authorities for registering and regulating the trade of tourist in their corresponding jurisdiction areas and also to focus on the grievances from sightseers coming to the State. There is an Enforcement Wing in the department that is controlled by a Superintendent of Police on delegation from the Department of Police, who is selected as the Tourism’s Deputy Director (Enforcement). In certain cases that require prosecution, the evidence can be the tourist’s hand-written complaint, in spite of the tourist leaving the State.
