Rajkot was founded by the then ruler of Sardhar in 1608 A.D. on the west bank of Aji River. Rajkot has been under many different rulers since it was founded. The Watson Museum is situated in the Jubilee Garden of Rajkot. This museum was established in 1888 and is dedicated to Colonel James Watson, who was a political agent of Saurashtra. Afterwards an enormous garden was developed and named as Jubilee by colonial Rulers. Watson Museum in Jubilee Gardens , Rajkot

This museum, regarded amongst the 7 finest museums located across the Saurashtra region, houses a huge collection of ancient and traditional artifacts, also exhibiting the cultural heritage of Saurashtra. Main exhibits displayed here include 13th century carvings, tribal costumes, temple statues, silverwares, ancient coins and other objects from the colonial period. Its major attraction is a huge marble statue of Queen Victoria.

An NGO maintained planetarium and science center took shape in 1992 where the children see and learn movements and positions of planets and their influences on earth and nature with the help of videos and sound shows.
