Lakhota Palace

Situated majestically in Jamnagar this palace cum museum was initially a fort that served as the perfect hiding place for soldiers to safeguard themselves from attacks from enemies. The beautiful place looks like an island as it is surrounded on all sides by the Lakhota Lake. Today, there is a majestic bridge made of stone to cross this lake and enter the museum. Lakhota Palace is now a museum which attracts thousands of tourists every year.

The museum takes us to the period between the 9th and 18th centuries as it contains exhibits of multiple kinds of pottery that were used in different villages in the olden days. There is also a huge skeleton of a whale that is kept in the museum which is one of the main objects that attracts the fancy of the tourists. Right at the entrance of the museum, the tourists are greeted with some valuable information about the architecture and history of the museum which helps them to appreciate the beauty of the museum in a better way. A special guardroom in the museum contains muskets, powder flasks and swords used by the soldiers in the ancient era. These exhibits not only explain the main reason why this fort was built, but it also helps the tourists to understand how prepared the fort was for unannounced enemy attacks, in terms of martial skills. The walls of the museum are adorned with beautiful frescoes exhibiting the fierce battles that were fought by the strong Jadeja Rajputs.
