Dam Dama Lake is one of the very popular picnic spots for general public and tourists alike. It is situated little over 50 kms from Delhi, the capital city of India. This water reservoir in Sohna is one of the biggest lakes in Haryana. The lake is spread over 3,000 acres of area. The placid waters are enjoyed by a stream of tourists through many activities involving a variety of boating experiences. Adventure sports and nature walks are added attractions for tourists to visit Dam Dama Lake. Many resorts are developed for the benefit of tourists.

History

Dam Dama Lake was a created through construction of a stone and earthen dam, built in the year 1947. An embankment holds the water in the lake. The source of the water is rain in the catchment area which is mainly a trough formed at the base of the Aravali hill range.  Monsoon rain helps in raising the water level from 20 feet to about 60 feet in the lake. The hilly contour of the area has resulted in giving amoeba-like shape to the lake. The lake has many branches.

Tourism

Visitors to the lake undertake many activities and spend their time with nature. Paddle boats, motor boats and row boats are all found in Dam Dama Lake. People of all age groups enjoy the serene environs of the lake. This lake is also home to a wide variety of birds. Hundreds of local and migratory bird varieties are found at the lake site in all seasons. Visitors enjoy pleasing experience of watching birds like kingfishers, egrets, cranes, and cormorants in the lake environs. The surrounding areas also have peacocks and blue bulls.

Activities

Surrounded by the Aravali Mountains, this picnic spot is perfect option for expedition. Besides, serene location, quiet and picturesque atmosphere here, one can take pleasure in boating in motor boats, row boats or paddle boats. This beautiful lake is also recognized for its superb adventure sports facilities including valley crossing , para sailing, cycling, kayaking, rock climbing and angling Nature walks can be enjoyed in the nearby Aravali hills.

Best Time To Visit

October to March is an ideal period for visiting Dam Dama Lake. Even monsoons are enjoyable. The serenity of tranquil waters creates a magical spell.

How To Reach

Dam Dama Lake is just about 20 kms from Gurgaon on the Gurgaon to Alwar Road. All modes of road transport, including buses and taxis are available for reaching the spot.
