Academy Of Fine Arts And Literature
The Academy of Fine Arts and Literature is a place most lovers of arts, crafts and literature have on their itinerary when they visit the capital of India. It is a unique arts society because it’s the only place which offers an open platform for people to exhibit their creativity and debate about art and artists.
Location and History
The Academy of Fine Arts and Literature is located in the Siri Fort Institutional Area. The Academy was founded by the renowned Punjabi writer Ajeet Kaur and her daughter Aparna Kaur, an acclaimed painter, in 1975 at their flat in Saket and was later shifted to its present address.
The Mission and Works of the Academy
The Academy of Fine Arts and Literature is under the administration of SAARC writers presently and represents SAARC nations India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The core aim of the academy is to protect, nurture, and promote the culture and art of these countries. The academy has helped in organizing a number of literary and cultural events which presents the work of art of top artists from SAARC countries. The Academy is also deeply involved in various development programs which have social and ideological themes.
There are two sprawling art galleries within the Academy which are offered for free for new talents from the world of arts and crafts. Physically challenged artists can also use these galleries for free to showcase their talent. Other facilities available at the academy include a free library and reading room, a well-appointed research center, an amphitheater, museums and more. Entry to the academy and its various facilities is free to the general public on all working days.
Information for Visitors
The Academy of Fine Arts and Literature is open to visitors on all days from 0930 Hrs to 2000 Hrs. Entry is free.
How to Reach
There are many state transport corporation buses plying from various parts of Delhi to the academy. The nearest metro station is Green Park on the Yellow Line. The academy is just 10 minutes walk from the station.
