At least 75% of the population of Andaman & Nicobar Islands are living abroad. Hence, it is important for these people to send money to their friends and family living in these islands. In the earlier days, it was difficult to spot a Western Union Money Transfer unit in these islands as they were few and far between. However, sensing the need for convenience for money transfer, they tied up with nationalised and private sector banks. Now, ICICI and State Bank of India have dedicated counters for Western Union Money Transfer so that customers don’t have to stand in long queues to get the money that is being sent from their relatives.
