Radha Kund

This beautiful pond located near the cities of Mathura and Vrindavan is considered to be the holiest place by the Gaudiya Vaisnavas. It is said that this is the place where Lord Krishna had spent some really sweet and intimate moments with Radha and hence, this place is considered to be special. People from various parts of the country come here to take a dip and wash off their sins.

It is said that this pond was created by Lord Krishna when he and Balaram were attacked by a demon named Arishta. Arishta came in the form of bull and was easily overpowered and killed by Krishna. Hearing that, Radha forbade Krishna to touch her as he had killed someone from the cow family. She said Krishna could only touch her after washing off his sins by bathing in all the holy places on Earth. Krishna then struck the ground with his heel and created a pond and summoned all the holy places around the world to fill it with their waters. Radha Kund was built by Radha herself and her sakhis by digging the ground with their bangles, in answer to Shyama Kund. All the holy waters insisted that they fill up Radha Kund as well and that is how Radha Kund came into existence and is now considered to be the most sacred of all.
