Barua Sagar Taal

The Barua Sagar Taal is a large artificial lake that was created more than 260 years ago by Raja Udit Singh, who just built the embankment. It is located near Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. There is a large fort near this lake that offers stunning view of the town. The Jarai-ka-Math temple is also a nearby tourist attraction.

Location

The Barua Sagar Taal is located in the town of Barua Sagar in the district of Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. It is a beautiful lake that is well connected to rest of the city. The distance of Barua Sagar from Jhansi is about 24 km and it lies on the road to Khajuraho located on the Jhansi-Varanasi route. Barua Sagar town lies on the bank of river Betwa.

Climate

This part of Uttar Pradesh experience extreme temperatures. In winter you can experience a temperature as low as 1-2o C and in the summers the mercury can rise to as much as 50o C, though you can come down to the Barua Sagar Taal to relax and enjoy the cool wind during the summer months. The average temperature during the summers is between 24o C to 45o C and the rainy season sets in from the third week of June and continues till the end of September, though during this time, the rains become weak. Spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit any place in Jhansi including Barua Sagar Taal and October, November, February and March are considered to be the best months to visit this place.

Geography

The Barua Sagar Lake is an artificial lake and the town Barua Sagar has been named after this beautiful lake. The exact location of this lake is given by the coordinates 25.368°N 78.748°E.

Attractions

The Barua Sagar Taal itself is famous tourist attraction here. Apart from that, there is the Barua Sagar Fort near the lake or the fort of Bundelkhand that offers magnificent view of the entire town. The fort is almost in ruins and is being restored by the ASI. The Jarai-ka-Math is also a beautiful temple nearby dedicated to Goddess Durga.

How to Reach

By Road

Barua Sagar Town is about 22 km from Jhansi and since it lies on the Jhansi-Varanasi road and on the way to Khajuraho, all buses cross Barua Sagar. You can also hire taxis and private cars from the Jhansi bus station to reach the Barua Sagar Taal.

By Railways

There is a railway station in Barua Sagar and there are few trains that connect this town with Jhansi and Varanasi

By Air

There is no airport in this small town of Barua Sagar and the nearest airport is in Gwalior. Gwalior airprot is at a distance of 115 km for this town. There are taxis and luxury cars that you can hire to reach Barua Sagar from Gwalior Airport. Once you are in the city, you can hire auto-rickshaws and tempos or board a bus to reach the Barua Sagar Taal from any corner of the town.
