Perunchani Dam

Perunchani Dam is majorly an irrigation dam located in Perunchani in Tamil Nadu. The Dam is located at a distance of about 42 Km from Nagercoil and at a mere distance of about 10 Km from the town of Kulasekhram.

Hydrography

This dam has been amazingly built between the two Hillocks of the Western Ghats across the Paralayar River. About 1224 ft long, this dam is a straight gravity masonry dam consisting of about 904 ft of bulkhead section. It also possesses a drainage gallery of 1.5 metres X 2.3 metres located in the middle river section. This gallery has a length of 150 Ft and serves an outlet for the seepages which may occur at the foundation as well as a longitudinal inspection chamber.

This dam is situated amidst the lush green scenic hills of Western Ghats and command panoramic views of lush greenery and stunning hills around.

How to Reach

Perunchani Dam is located at a distance of about 10 Km from Kulasekhram from where you can either hire a taxi or auto-rickshaw, or board a bus to reach the dam area.

By Air

The nearest airport to Kulasekhram is Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, Kerala located at a distance of about 46 Km.

By Rail

There is no railway station in Kulasekhram and the nearest rail head is Kuzhithurai West Railway Station located at a distance of 11 Km. Kulitturai railway station is also located at a distance of 11 Km from Kulasekhram.

By Road

Kulasekhram is well connected to other nearby cities of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka through a well-developed network of roads. You can easily find a bus for Kulasekhram.
