Location

Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary is located in the Rajsamand District of the Indian state Rajasthan. Surrounding the fortress of the city Kumbhalgarh, the Sanctuary has an area of 223 square miles or 578 kilometer square. The Sanctuary has the extensions which cover the parts of Udaipur, Pali and Rajsamand districts, and has gone through the Aravalli Range. The altitude of the Sanctuary has a range within 500 and 1300 meters, or 1600 and 4300 ft.

Fauna

The wildlife is a chief part of Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary. Varieties of animals can be included in the list of the fauna of the Sanctuary. The leopards and the panthers are the main attractions. Others include sloth bear, jackal, hyena, jungle cat, wild boar and the four horned antelope or the Chaisingh. The smabhar, chinkara, hare and nilgai are also the other inhabitants of the sanctuary.

One of the most known facts is that Rajasthan has only one sanctuary where the wolves can be noticed active, and the sanctuary is none other than that of Kumbhalgarh. The number of the wolves inhabiting counts to above 40 in the Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary.

Another prime attraction of the Sanctuary is that of its avifauna life. The species of the birds are numerous in number. The doves, peacocks and the Grey Jungle Fowl are most commonly seen. Other jewels in the crown of the sanctuary are parakeets, bulbul, red spur owls, golden oriole, white breasted kingfisher and grey pigeons.

Flora

The flora of Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary includes majorly the herbs. Besides these, there are certain other floral species. The notable names of the floral species are Salar, Churel, Khair and Dhok.

Climate And Best Time to Visit

The climate around the Sanctuary remains most favorable from the months of October to April and it is the best time to pay a visit. During the summer season, the maximum temperature reaches to 37 degrees of centigrade and the minimum reaches to 23 degrees. And during winter, the maximum is 29 degrees, whereas the minimum is 9.1 degrees. It can be said that all through the year, the Sanctuary has a favorable weather for the fauna, which can also be described as mild or moderate.

How to Reach


By Air

Udaipur Dabok Airport is the nearest to the Sanctuary, and it is within 24 km from the city of Kumbhalgarh. The modern airport, which is further developing, can be reached from Delhi, Mumbai, Aurangabad, Jaipur and Jodhpur directly, connected by the daily flights with Udaipur.

By Road

Daily buses are available in the routes connecting Udaipur and Kumbhalgarh. The cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Jaipur connect to Kumbhalgarh for self driving. The tourism buses from India Gate of Delhi can also be available.

By Train

The nearest station to Kumbhalgarh is that of Udaipur. This railway route has the connectivity with Ahmedabad, Delhi, Jaipur, and recently, Kolkata. Udaipur has the connection with Delhi, Mathura and Kota by the Mewar Express, which is a superfast train running on the broad gauge line. With Kolkata, the train is Ananya Express that connects Udaipur.

Visitor Information

The entrance fee of the Sanctuary is highly affordable for the Indian students, which is of INR 2. For the Indians, the fee is INR 10; and for the foreign citizens, it counts INR 80. INR 100 is charged for the vehicles such as bus, mini bus, jeep, gypsy, and car. And, also INR 10 is charged for the two wheelers.
