Umaid Bhawan Palace
This beautiful hotel, Umaid Bahwan Palace is in Jodhpur, Rajasthan and is the largest private residence. This is again managed by the famous Taj Groupis has got its name after Maharaja Umaid Singh, who is the grandfather of the present owner. 347 rooms and the principal residence for the Jodhpur royal family, it is a not-to-miss location.
Earlier it was known as Chittar Palace as it was located on the Chittar Hill which is the highest points of Jodhpur. The construction of this monumental was completed in the year 1943 for which the ground work was started in 1929. It provided employment to thousands of people during the time of famine in Jodhpur.
History
Jodhpur wanted growth as food and water were very little. Maharaja Umid Singh in 1923 took over a land to give employment to thousands of people of Mewar at the time of crisis situations like famines and drought. It was started in 1923 and completed in the year of 1943 and was declared as the landmark in Jodhpur.
It was made as per the latest design trends of that time and has the name if Chittar Palace as the sandstone Chittar has been used in the making. Interlocking system without mortar binding was used to construct this special system. All the 347 rooms were finally completed in the year of 1943 and is the main house for royal families.
This masterpiece was constructed and designed by Henry Lanchester and has both Indian and Western influences and artifacts. Renaissance influenced the 105-feet high cupola. The tower showcases rich Rajput culture. Umaid Bahwan is one of the great palaces of Jodhpur and is an important landmark.
