The Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum is located in the City Palace complex in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India and was built in 18th century. Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II museum is one of the major centers of brilliance and incorporates an exclusive collection of the inherited items of Kachwa tribe of Amber. These items include shawls, royal and traditional dresses, carts, paintings, manuscripts and armors. The Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum has the unique architecture and depicts a reflection of Rajasthani and Mughal styles.

In 1959, this museum was established by Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II. The display inside the museum consists of the exclusive collection which was made by the consecutive rulers of Jaipur and Ajmer. This museum is currently run by an open charitable trust. The museum is always surrounded by guests from all over the globe. The museum is found overcrowded in winters specifically. Entry fee for the foreigners, students and Indians are different and collected by the Museum staff.  Special consideration and concession for tickets is offered for a huge group of visiting students.

Many workshops and other educational programs are organized for children in the museum by its staff members. The staff always dresses up traditionally and this makes the ambience of the museum more hospitable and welcoming. The museum is one of the most renowned museums in Rajasthan and has a wide collection of exclusive items related to the royal family for ages. The collection displayed at the museum is the true reflection of the rich Indian history and art and culture which is preserved here for many generations.

The museum in itself is an impressive and amazing building which is the perfect example of Rajput, European and Islamic architecture. The royal family of Jaipur still stays in part of city complex. The museum has mainly three galleries which are Textile gallery, Armory and Art gallery. All these galleries have a diverse range of royal outfits belonging to Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II himself, dangerous weapons, coins, and heavily imprinted daggers, huge silver vessels, ornaments, miniature scriptures, and paintings.

City Palace forms one of the most eminent traveler attractions and a foremost landmark in Jaipur city. This extensive complex with its elegant architecture and spectacular collection of artifacts is unmatchable in Rajasthan. History

City Palace museum stands apart among the various palaces and forts of Jaipur, and with its outstanding art and architecture attracts many viewers throughout the year. In the beginning, only special visitors and VIP could visit this museum with permission.  But, in 1959 this personal museum was opened to all.

Grand Gateway

It is the major attraction in the museum and made up from a brass. It leads one to the Diwan-i-khas and also known as the Hall of personal guests. Two silver vessels which are biggest and unique in the world amazed many viewers. When Madho Singh II moved to England, these vessels were used to carry water from the river Ganges. The grand gateway and the hall looks outstanding because of the elaborated decorations in bright shades like golden and red attract visitors. In hall, beautiful paintings, miniature and carpet collection beautify its interiors magnificently. Overall, its an amazing place to visit.

Timings and Tickets

The Maharaja Sawai Man Singh museum stays open from Tuesday to Sunday from 09.30 am to 5.00 pm. On Monday the museum remains close. The entrance fee is different for all like for adults the fee is Rs 35 and for kids’ fee is Rs 20 and there is no fee for kids below the age of 5. The entry fee is charged by museum staff at the palace entrance.
