The history of Punjab is very rich in its culture and the state is also beautiful while one travels through various cities in the entire state. The state attracts large number of visitors from ages. The major attraction in the state is world famous Golden Temple. Golden Temple is not the only attraction that makes this state one of the best visited place by the tourists. Punjab is also the state that is also known for its cultivation land. The largely spread mustard fields in the entire state makes the drive through the smooth roads of the state of Punjab even more beautiful. The fully grown yellow colored mustard flower fields give an enchanting view. The state of Punjab also gets large number of festivals during the festive season since the festivals here are celebrated with all zeal and zest. The city of Amritsar is famous for its religious and sacred venues. The major community that stays in the city belongs to Sikh. City of Amritsar has the beautiful and pious Golden Temple that is also named as the Harmandir Sahib Gurudwara. Along with the pious Golden Temple the city of Amritsar also has two awful events linked to its name and it is the massacre of Jallianwala Bagh that happened in the year 1919 while the other event is the Blue star Operation that was in 1984. The few of the other tourists spots that can be visited in Jalandhar are Wonderland, Pushpa Gujral Science City, Devi talab Mandir and many huge and beautiful Havelis.

The major festival that is celebrated in Jalandhar is the fair that happens annually in the month of December and it is named as Harballabh. The biggest city in the state of Punjab that is located on the bank of Sutlej River is the Ludhiana city. Ludhiana city has various tourists place and few of them to be named are Rakh Bagh, Guru Nanak Stadium, Nehru Rose Garden and the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Fort. The other city that attracts the visitors to state of Punjab is Patiala that is located on the southern east in Punjab. During the British reign, Patiala was the capital of Punjab state. The popularities associated with the city are its beautifully braided hair commonly known as Paranda, the traditional Jutti with embellished thread and bead work, the head covers for men called Pagri and the most famous is the Patiala Peg which is term used for Whiskey served in the proportions and the quantity of it is generally large. The state of Punjab produces the major portion of wheat consumed by the entire country. The land in the state is most fertile. The state of Punjab is also known as state of five rivers.

Few of the major cities visited by the tourists are Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Wagah.

Amritsar

The weather conditions in Amritsar are very extreme since the temperature variation ranges from maximum of 40 degree Celsius to -3 degree Celsius. The most sacred place that is visited by the people of Sikh community is the Gurudwara Golden Temple that is part of the city of Amritsar. The Gurudwara is not only visited by the people of Sikh community but also by the people of other religion with the same faith. The Gurudwara is located in mid of the sacred water pond. The upper part of the Gurudwara is covered with gold and thus the name Golden Temple was given to this Gurudwara.

Chandigarh

The city of Chandigarh is the only city that is capital of two states that are Haryana and Punjab. This city has been termed as Union territory by Indian Government. This city has been declared as the most planned city that was planned by Lutyens. This is the same person who also designed the capital of India that is New Delhi. The design of the city is such that it becomes extremely easy to move from one place to another within the city. The city is well connected to the major cities and states in the northern part of the country.

Wagah

This is the place that is the major border between Indian and Pakistan. The people visit this place generally in the evening to observe the flag ceremony performed by the soldier’s of both the countries. The flag ceremony is performed two times a day.

Ludhiana

The city is famous for the production of wool and manufacturing of the woolen clothes. Many people visit this place to do their winter shopping.

Jallianwala Bagh

This place though is a tourist place but the history of this place is quite shocking since the known massacre took place here where thousands of Sikh people were brutally murdered by the gun shots whose marks can still be seen on the walls.

Tourism in Punjab

The major reasons for the popularity of state of Punjab are its finger licking cuisine, the culture and the magnificent history. The major tourist cities in the state are Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala and Ludhiana. The public transport facility is very well networked in the entire state of Punjab.

The tourists visiting the state of Punjab experience its rich culture and tradition. There are number of tourist places ranging from palaces, battle fields, temples, Gurudwaras. The visitors can satisfy their appetite by eating the tongue smacking wide variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine.

The tourism of state of Punjab has been continuously increasing.
