Bhamragarh Wildlife Sanctuary

The parks, reserves and sanctuaries that are found in great numbers in the state of Maharashtra, are perfect treasures of some of the wild and exotic species of flora and fauna. These parks offer great services like safari rides, library, visual and audio aids for guided tours throughout the parks, comfortable staying and commuting options in and around the park. Tourists are charged reasonably for these services.

This Bhamragarh wildlife sanctuary is covered in the deep and dense forests which are inhabited by the Gonda-Madia tribes. This tribal population still follows an ancient lifestyle and they depend on the forest for their survival. Madia and Gondi are the local languages spoken here and there are many plants that form as natural shelters for the wild animals in this sanctuary. During the winter and monsoon season, the path to the forests gets dangerous therefore the summer months between February and May are the best times to visit this place. The blue bell, peacock, flying squirrel, leopard, wild board, jungle owl, sloth bear and barking deer are some of the varieties of animals found here.

The Bhamragarh wildlife sanctuary is also home to two rivers; Parlkota River and Pamalgautam River. This sanctuary has a green cover all around and makes the tourists lose track of their present life as Nature God takes them back to lovely times.

Location

This sanctuary is located in the Bhamragarh district of Maharashtra. This sanctuary is place for some rare species of wildlife and birds and therefore is a visual delight for animal and bird lovers. There are lots of students and researchers who come here to study the different and varied species of life here. This place is full of greenery and has a peaceful ambience and is the perfect place for unwinding as a family.

The flying squirrels, wild boars, barking deer, jungle fowls etc. are some of the exotic species that are found here. This sanctuary is found within the dense expanse of forests and there are many points in this place which prove to be a photographer’s delight.  People who want to understand the different types of flora and fauna should come to this place as it is a storehouse of the rare species of wildlife and plants. One can spot huge varieties of jamuns, bels, bamboo trees, kusums etc.

Flora

The main reason for the evergreen ambience of this place is due to the presence of the permanent rivers and nalas that are found here. Some of the most common species of trees are Jamun, Mango, Bamboo, Kadam, Haldu, Kusum, Ain, Arjun, Bija, Bel, Behada, Shishamtendu etc. Being a dense forest, there is no dearth for the quantity of shrubs like Tarota, Neel, Kudgudi, Tarwad and Kuda here.  Grasses of Chir, Gawat, Kusal, Khus and Mussam types are found here in large numbers.

Fauna

Most of the endangered or rare species of animals are found here in plenty. Some examples of the exotic and rare species that are found here are the Jungle Fowl, Wild Boar, Sloth Boar and Leopard. Tourists are pleasantly thrilled to find the Flying Squirrel, Peacock, Mongoose, Hare, Blue Bells, Barking Deer and many other rare varieties.

Best Time to Visit

The summer season, that is the months between February and May  is the best time to visit this sanctuary. The rainy season that lasts between June and September is also quite cool and pleasant to visit this place.

Rail

Ballarpur railway station, at a distance of 197km away , is the closet station to this place.

Air

Sonegaon Nagpur airport, at a distance of 370km away, is the closet airport to this place.

Road

This place has a wonderful road infrastructure and is well connected to all the major cities in the country.

Where to Stay

There are no overnight camping facilities available in the sanctuary. However, upon prior requests, tourists will be accommodated in the many rest houses that are available in the place, depending on the efforts from the Deputy Forest Conservator.
