Thrissanku Hills is a breathtaking hill range located in the Idukki district of Kerala. It is just five kilometers from Peermade and is not as gigantic and vast as other major hill ranges in the state but attracts tourists in large numbers, primarily because they experience a different side of nature here.

Thrissanku is a great place for trekking and long leisurely walks as the gentle breeze that blows in inspires you to keep going. Besides, the spectacular landscape and the stunningly beautiful view of the sunrise and sunset are unmatched. A simple walk through the ranges can be therapeutic as it makes you feel completely relaxed and rejuvenated.

The Rolling Hills

The majestic scenery that Thrissanku unwinds provides you with a view of a different side of nature every time. The mountain range is also called the rolling hills as you get to see a different aspect of the hill ranges at different times of the day. The place is extremely serene, calm and peaceful. It can dissipate all your stress and tension\, making you one with nature.

The Adjacent Side of Thrissanku

The Peeru Hills which is nearby and adjacent to Thrissanku offer tourists another awesome experience of nature. The hills have been named after the famous Sufi Saint, Peer Mohammad who spent the last days of his life here. Tourists make it a point to visit the mausoleum of the saint to pay their respects.

You can also visit the palace of the royal family of Travancore and the homes of the Diwan and Panchalimedu while you are here. There is a viewpoint at the hills from where the celestial light or the Makarajyothi can be seen during the Sabarimala pilgrim season in December-January.

The Best Time to Visit

Although, Thrissanku Hills is open to tourists all year round, the best time to visit the place is from September to March. The heavy rains can make the terrains here tough to negotiate and that’s why a visit during monsoon is best avoided.

There are excellent and affordable lodging and boarding facilities provided by state tourism development board as well as private entrepreneurs around Thrissanku. You can book rooms in advance at lodges and rooms managed by KTDC.

How to Reach

By Road

There are a number of buses operating from Kochi, Thekkady and Kumily routes to take you to Thrissanku Hills. The roads are well developed and maintained. Thrissanku Hills is less than a kilometer away from Kuttikanam and just four km from Peermade.

By Rail

The railway station that’s nearest to Thrissanku is Kottayam which is approximately 75 km from the place.

By Air

The nearest airport from Thrissanku is Kochi International Airport which is 190 km from the place.
