History

Mattupetty is located at a distance of 13 km from Munnar is popularly known as ‘cattle village’. It got this name from the Indo Swiss farm project or the Livestock project which was launched in the region in 1963. As part of a bilateral project between India and Switzerland, high yielding cattle species were brought to the newly established farm at Mattupetty.

In addition, Mattupetty is also known for its concrete gravity dam which was constructed as a part of the Pallivasal Hydro-electric project during 1940’s.

How to Reach Mattupetty

By Air

Cochin International Airport located at a distance of 123 km from Mattupetty. Alternatively, you can disembark at Madurai International Airport which lies at a distance of 153 km from Mattupetty. Taxi service is available for Munnar from Cochin and Madurai. State transport bus service is also available in Cochin and Madurai and can also be considered for heading to Mattupetty.

By Train

Aluva railway station at a distance of 123 km from Mattupetty is the nearest to Mattupetty. Alternatively, you can consider disembarking at Ernakulum Railway Station which is a major rail junction in Kerala. Public transport is available from Ernakulum rail head and you can reach Munnar or Mattupetty comfortably.

By Road

Munnar is easily accessible from all major cities in Kerala through the road route. State transport buses ply on state highway connecting Munnar with other cities regularly. Mattupetty located at a distance of 13 km from Munnar can further be accessed through public transport, taxi service or private transport.
