History
The meaning of the word Ilaveezhapoonchira means “a flower pond where leaves do not fall”. Since there is not a single tree in vicinity so there is no scope of leaves falling here hence the name given. Some people are of the view that the place is quite windy hence the leaves are carried away in the wind instead of falling. As per legend goes, Pandavas used to stay here when they were living incognito during their exile period. Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas came here to take a bath in a lake that was present in those times at this place. Devas seeing her beauty got attracted to her and they tried to fulfil their voyeuristic itch. King of Devtas, Lord Indra when came to know about their plan created a fence of flowers around her to stop this from happening. Thus the pond converted into a dam of flowers in full bloom.
