When it comes to one of the most beautiful and scenic beaches of Kerala, Kappil Beach clearly stands out from the others. This beach can be found towards the coast of the Arabian Sea. It is situated exactly in Varkala towards the north-western part of the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram.  Every year, this beach witnesses lots of Indian and international tourists who come here to enjoy the relaxed view of the backwaters, beaches and participate in the adventurous water sports activities that the beach has to offer. This beach is situated in the vicinity of many tourist spots.

How to Reach

By Air

The Thiruvananthapuram International airport, at a distance of about 55 km, is the nearest airport to the Kappil Beach.

By Rail

Varkala railway station, at just about 7 km distance from the beach, is the nearest railway station.

By Road

There are lots private and government sector buses that operate from various places like Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Paravur and Varkala to the beach frequently for the benefit of tourists.

Weather

The months between December and February are the best time to visit the Kappil Beach as the weather is pretty cool and pleasant during this time. As the milky white waves of the beaches hit against the black rocks, you can enjoy a divine scene sitting on the reddish sands of the beach during this time of the year.

Beach Attractions

There is not much to do here except visit the Kappil Bhagavathy temple located in close vicinity to the beach. Only Hindus are allowed inside this temple.

Nearby Attractions

There are quite a few places like Varkala, Paravur, Kollam and the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram located in and around the Kappil Beach. Tourists can go around these places and indulge in some sight -seeing and shopping activities.

Activities

One of the main activities that can be done here is indulge in boating trips. Many mini-sized and medium-sized boats ferry frequently into the waters carrying interested passengers for a reasonable fee. The thrill that tourists get by going into the rough waters on a shaky boat ride is worth every penny. One can also indulge in relaxed walking trips right from the beach to the cliff at Varkala. There are many trekking trails here which make it a haven for mountain climbing lovers.

Shopping

The area all along the cliff of the beach is filled with a row of major and minor shops that run up to one km at least. Tourists can shop for many accessories in these shops at affordable rates provided they use their bargaining skills to the best possible level.

Food Corners

There are many small food stalls lined across the length of the beach selling interesting Indian snacks and savouries.  Though these do not score great on the hygiene quotient, they taste amazingly great.
